The more that I think about this page the more I am like: Wait…she (or is it he?) is holding his bottom and when she raises her hand she is full of blood…menstruation! O_O
… Oh. Oh god no. Akane is, like, 7 years old tops. It is WAY to early for her to have her period. D:
(also yes, Akane is a girl; Akane is a girl’s name, and Masahiro refers to her as a girl on an earlier page of this chapter; I just haven’t emphasised her gender very much, and haven’t pushed for it in her visual design either; she is, as I said, at most 7 years old, and at that age children are pretty neutral as far as gender-expression goes)
I’m surprised you came up with menses, as it seemed to me that Anna had very specifically used a different art style for that one section, which in itself conveyed to me ‘flashback’.
Isn’t it great how there are so many ways to interpret art?
Now when I look at it again, I can see where the confusion was; she was staring at her hands in one panel, it reflects what seems to be ‘on her hands’ and then she’s back to the sitting position. It could be convey a little clearer, if she still had her hands out at the last panel than down?
